I just want to point out to you that, I don't actually hate Flash Sentry like you do. Because, let me ask you this, so what if he’s looks more at home on a terrible Disney Channel sitcom? I mean there is a way to do that kind of character and still have him be good.

(Seminoles added more in a note. Which I’ll put below these parentheses in bold and italic. My response will be in normal text)

“Ok yes, Twilight did have a bad case of puppy love with Flash, but come on, she’s a teenager. Shallow crushes happen at that age, and we really should be glad she didn’t end up with someone like Hans from Frozen. Besides, Flash would treat her right. He seems like a gentleman and is shown to apply himself both physically and musically. He’s not a bad person at all. In fact, he’s genuinely helpful. He helps Twilight for the sake of it and without ulterior motive (If you ever call me a White Knight, because I do cut him some slack, then I will strangle you).

But then again…we know very little about him. He rarely says “I like this” or “I view things this way.” One problem I actually have with him is that I don’t care about him. The story failed to generate any interest in him for me. I mean if he was instead written out of the plot, no one would mind.

So, bottom line, I think he’s overhated and that I feel that you along with most people in the fandom are overreacting, though I’ll say that I just don’t find him compelling.”

Ok first I want to answer something you said during the puppy love paragraph. You said Twilight is a teenager… Iiiii disagree with that notion. I’ve always seen at least most of the Mane 6 were at least young adults ranging from the equivalent of 17-24 years in age for us. The reason I say that is because the Ponies already have actual jobs to themselves. Especially Rarity and Applejack who run a boutique and a farm and they live on their own where their parents might be miles away (Or in the case of Applejack, possibly deceased). I just don’t see them as Teenagers. Maybe Equestria Girls if it was 100% confirmed to be canon would basically be telling me that I’m wrong about that. But to me Twilight’s friendship studies always felt like to me as if it was like her college. Her ascension to Princesshood in Magical Mystery Cure was her graduation. Even though it’s a little odd, regardless or not if it’s canon. I kinda like to think that the portal also de-aged Twilight a bit. If it could transform her into an entirely different species, who says it couldn’t have messed with her physical age as well? It may just be that I’d like to see the Mane 6 as relatable as they can be being somewhere around the age I’m in (I’m 21 currently BTW) but I don’t think we can clearly note down just what are the Mane 6 whether they’re teens or adults cause unless the show ever refers to them as Teens, or otherwise start saying their exact ages. We can’t know for sure. We can only have personal guesses, and it just comes down to headcanon at that point. It’s my headcanon that all the Mane 6 are Young Adults of some kind with maybe a little wiggle room for Pinkie and/or Rainbow Dash being 16 or 17 at the beginning of the series but are 18 or 19 now. If you view them as teenagers that’s ok too. In shows like this, the Main Characters ages are left ambiguous so you can shape them to however you like and also makes it easier for the show-runners to get away with if the show runs a long time how the characters don’t age too much (Cause while shows like FOP and The Simpsons have gotten away with long-running shows without having the characters age all that much. It starts to become a bit of Ash Ketchum of Pokemon syndrome where we’re like “How does Ash still look like he’s 10 after all these seasons?” :P)

But anyway, getting to what was your point in asking me with Flash Sentry. It’s true that I may be overreacting a little. As for now Flash Sentry is still just a standalone thing in Equestria Girls with two inconsequential cameos in the Main series. I however am nonetheless fearful of the day if they ever decided to expand his role not just in anything related to Equestria Girls but in the main show as well. If a Season 5 episode synopsis were to have anything close to being “Twilight Sparkle is nervous for a date. A date with a Crystal Empire guard she fawns over named Flash Sentry” I would not be happy in the slightest. Not just because it’s Flash Sentry, but this show using romance and taking seriously just doesn’t feel right. I was ok with both Hearts and Hooves Day and even Simple Ways because to me those were more focused on comedy more then the romance aspects (And at least Rarity crushing on somepony has kinda shown up before with Blueblood back in Season 1). And any major romance is pretty much lampshaded, like the overly sappy compliments Big Mac and Cheerilee give eachother are just part of the love poison they were given. This is Friendship is Magic, not Love is Magic. Again, having stuff like Hearts and Hooves Day, Simple Ways, and the marriage between Cadence and Shining Armor are fine (Cadence is essentially the Princess of Love after all) but it should be spaced out and not make itself a centralized part of the show like introducing Flash Sentry as Twilight’s Coltfriend who appears from time-to-time most likely would. A scenario like that is I believe should equate to many of the Fandom’s worst nightmare scenarios such as the rest of the Mane 6 becoming Alicorns for no reason (It makes sense for Twilight, but not her friends) and/or introducing a 7th Element of Harmony just to introduce a new character to make it a Mane 7. (The show has not done everything they can possibly do with just the six. We don’t need a 7th to complicate things further and/or take screentime away from the characters we followed since the beginning).

And also about Flash Sentry not being compelling, that just kinda makes things worse. Because even Equestria Girls which is the only thing that features him didn’t do a whole lot with him. Though I personally don’t care if Season 5 were to suddenly make him the most fleshed out character in the entire show. Cause that presents a problem, the show is now taking so much focus on expanding Flash’s personality when he barely had any in what was supposed to be his kind of introduction. And it would be taking screentime from characters we care about much more then him. If they wanted us to care for Flash Sentry why would they do it now instead of leaving a blank slate for his first impression? Even though some people complain about how Canterlot Wedding didn’t really do a whole lot for Shining Armor and/or Cadence at least we got a pretty good idea what they’re like compared to Flash Sentry. And at least they actually had an effect on the plot, again unlike Flash Sentry who’s only important role in the movie was proving Twilight didn’t sabotage the prom decorations. Which could of been done by pretty much anybody else. Otherwise, he was the generic love interest placed in just to fill a High School movie cliche right down to being the ex-boyfriend of the bitchy antagonist.
