Overall Thoughts: Ahhh Season 2. While not perfect, until Season 4 would end up dominating like it did. Season 2 was like the sweetest breath of Fresh Air for the show to me. When Season 2 is at it’s best, it really hits it big cause this Season just blew almost everything from the first season out of the Water. While because it took a lot more risk, some of the bad episodes really dipped in the usual quality of the show. The best episodes were just that good to make Season 2 shine regardless. Season 2’s greatest strength came in expanding on quite a bit of characters. Twilight showed her neurotic side a little more that was only glanced over a bit in previous episodes like Swarm of the Century and A Bird in a Hoof, Rarity struggled with her own genorus nature in both Sisterhooves Social and Sweet and Elite, and Fluttershy really showed great heart in Hurricane Fluttershy. Granted the other 3 of the Main 6 might have gotten a bit of the short end with Rainbow’s episodes portraying her jerkish more then ever, especially in Mare-Do-Well where pretty much all of the Main 6 came off pretty mean-spirited. And Smile Song aside, there wasn’t much Pinkie development that got anywhere close to Party of One. And Applejack just got overshadowed in both of her episodes. Albeit she showed some really good support in other episodes where she wasn’t the focus, like in Sisterhooves Social. But besides the Main 6, we got more insight of Dragons and Spike himself (Even if Dragon Quest was full of unfortunate implications and lots of missed potential), we had what was at the time the best villain of the series in Discord, and a very surprising Finale that while it has been surpassed twicefold for me as the best two-parter. Was still such a big hit with me that I still remember how the whole Changeling reveal took me completely by surprise. And also tons of new characters or bringing back of characters that the fans really wanted to see again like Luna.
That said I should probably also address the Season’s greatest flaw: After the first 5 episodes. Quality gets really inconsistent. The first 5 episodes of Season 2 were pretty much all brilliant in some way. While I believe Luna Eclipsed was a tad overrated, I wouldn’t say it was ultimately bad and a lot of people were loving the episode afterward. It’s the Cutie Pox that was the first oddity of Season 2. While entertaining, the episode felt like filler even compared to the slice-of-life that FiM usually is anyway. The CMC don’t learn anything new about their Cutie Mark predicament and besides a few funny moments like Applebloom getting a French cutie mark and Pinkie trying to open the flower with her telling the truth about how many corn cakes she ate it feels kinda of a waste to watch as other then a mention in Magical Mystery Cure it doesn’t really do a whole lot. From then on Season 2 was basically a roller coaster. There would be a stretch of low, perhaps one of the lowest lows the show has ever gone for a little while, then a decent sized high, then it’s drop once more, then we’d get one of the highest highs, only to dip a little lower, but luckily seque into a very entertaining finish
As such, Season 2 was just all over the place. there were ups and down throughout the season. There was both short-lived good or bad periods or good or bad periods that lasted at least three episodes. Some people cite this as why they may not like Season 2 as much as Season 1. Because while Season 1 definitely wasn’t good all the time, it was at least consistent where there were more stretches of good or decent episodes compared to bad. And it is a tad jarring just how the quality shifts around throughout the season. But this was the result of the staff managing to break out of the shell and really start experimenting a little more with that they can do with the show. Sometimes the results came up with some of the best episodes we’ve ever had, others led to episodes that were pretty much failures. And others had a bit of a mixture of the two. Which episodes belongs to which group depends who you ask. But I think what this really does is make Season 2 whether good or bad, the most discussion worthy season cause it expands a lot more on everything the show has. Cause Season 2 episodes could get awfully complex, while Season 1 tended to be a tad more simple and other then a few days of discussion about the episode not a lot of Season 1 episodes could really spark longer talks between fans of the show. There was almost always something notable to talk about. From Discord, to Insane Twilight, To Luna, To how bad Mare-Do-Well was, To how Fancy Pants was a cool dude, to the History in the Hearth’s Warming Eve, to Pony genetics mentioned in Baby Cakes, to Derpy, to Daring Do, to shipping after Hearts and Hooves Day, to the Smile song, to Iron Will, to Time travel, to Fluttershy’s bullied past, to just about everything that was introduced in Canterlot Wedding. Even the weaker episodes provided something that sometimes is still talked about to this day. Part of the very reason that I feel Season 2 at the time surpassed Season 1 by quite a bit was just how much it offered. Where even some of the good episodes of Season 1 haven’t really contributed as much in the long run. Regardless of some bumps and hiccups in quality, I feel Season 2 was a grand age for the show. And while it has been surpassed by Season 4 in my opinion. There’s always that extra edge that even though Season 4 is more consistently good quality, Season 2 will remain a close 2nd. And I can even understand if there are people who still believe Season 2 is the best season (In the last Equestria Daily poll when they asked for what was the best season. Season 4 won overall, but Season 2 really was not that far behind). There was a reason I was waiting for the Finale to air to finally confirm if I liked Season 4 even if with only 24 episodes it’s still more consistently good compared to Season 2. If the Finale was at all terrible there was a chance Season 4 would drop down to only a little bit better then Season 4 where it showed promise but then it didn’t have an ending that blew me away quite like Canterlot Wedding did. Luckily the Finale would be my favorite two-parter yet so that didn’t happen. But Season 2 was that special where it came down to the end anyway.
Regarding what episodes I presented in the categories. While only one Episode of Season 1 really reached my heart more so then the others. Season 2 would triple or quadruple (if you count Canterlot Wedding as 2 episodes) that. Starting with Lesson Zero, which would probably be my choice of my favorite if you had to force me to choose what my favorite episode of the Season was and I can only pick one. Cause Lesson Zero singlehandedly fixed what was a bit of an issue I had with the first season. After Lesson Zero, Friendship letters were no longer required. More Ponies other then Twilight could send them, and Twilight herself didn’t even have to appear in every episode. It might be sound odd that Twilight being my favorite pony, where there’s now a possibility she won’t appear in some episodes would make me cite it as a good thing. But even I know, Twilight needs a break every now and then. Less breaks for Twilight means more neurotic freakouts. As much as I loved insane Twilight (When I was watching Lesson Zero for the first time, I was literally almost on the floor laughing so hard) I wouldn’t want it to be repeated too often. What I also love about the episode is that it gave Twilight a humbling moment where she does the wrong decision in a way that actually doesn’t completely make her into the butt monkey for being in the wrong like in Feeling Pinkie Keen or something has to convince her to be in the wrong like in Bridle Gossip. Lesson Zero basically set the tone for the rest of the season showing some more depth into the flaws of much of the Mane 6. Even if some didn’t quite work out (Especially in regards to Rainbow Dash in her first two episodes of the Season), when it did work. it produced great episodes. Twilight herself felt like a deeper character in Season 2 then she was in Season 1. Not saying she was flat throughout Season 1 (Even if in Look Before You Sleep she seemed that way…) and much of Season 2 I feel made me appreciate Twilight even more then I already did after Season 1. So I really think Lesson Zero was the point where the series really showed it’s stuff to me. This episode was one of the funniest, but it was more then that. It was one of the most important ones. It’d be the first time the show broke it’s status quo. Even if not nearly as huge as well… Twilight getting Wings or the Treebrary being destroyed, but it certainly seemed quite a big change at the time. And it may have partially been how the show got the direction it went. From then on, what looked like would be Status Quo for the entire show could be shattered by the beginning or ends of future seasons. Heck the episode’s writer would end up being the story editor and co-show runner when Rob Renzetti left after Season 2 ended. In other words, Lesson Zero might be responsible for where we are today. I’d nearly dare say that Seasons 3, 4 and perhaps even parts of Season 2 might have been completely different had Lesson Zero never been made. And probably not the direction I would have preferred. Oh and before I forget, while all I mentioned so far is the humor about the actual episode. There’s more to it that I love about it, the ending is great and heartwarming. And probably hands down one of the best portrayals of Spike in the series. Spike’s portrayal varies from writer to writer. But it always seems to be Meghan that writes him the best. And the reason why is because of how he is in this episode, he’s well aware of what Twilight’s problem and even tries to get her to snap out of it once. Eventually he gets the Princess to fix Twilight’s mess at the end. And a pretty happy ending results. It also had a good moral regarding helping your friend even if their problem seems minor to you but it’s major to them. There’s just so much to love about this episode that I could gush for hours. But I’ll spare you and move on to another episode.
Hurricane Fluttershy is the first episode of the series that doesn’t have something Twilight-centric that I love about the episode that I still rank among my favorite episodes. Cutie Mark Chronicles was basically a Main 6 episode but what I loved most about the episode was Twilight’s flashback. And Lesson Zero was all Twilight. Hurricane Fluttershy was so amazing that Fluttershy became my on-again, off-again 2nd favorite pony for a while. That’s changed since then (Rainbow Dash is now my #2) but she’s still #3 and it’s all thanks to this episode. This is just a really heartwarming episode, Fluttershy turning back to Rainbow Dash in tears and proceeding to run to the forest is one of the most heartbreaking moments of the series. It’s also good that the episode didn’t take the cliche route after the training montage with Fluttershy suddenly having amazing windpower after training hard. She improved a lot but it clearly wouldn’t have been enough. Fluttershy also being a victim of bullying and her still effected to this day could probably tug at the heartstrings at anyone who was also bullied in their youth. And Fluttershy overcoming it during the tornado was excellent to see. And the moral where it teaches even the littlest effort can be a big help is a very good one. This is also one of the few Friendship is Magic episodes that don’t rely too much on humor. While it’s still there like the possible Fluttertree reference at the beginning and Bulk Biceps’ catchphrase of “YEAH!”. It doesn’t take away from what’s a pretty dramatic episode which isn’t all that normal of the show. Which is not really a bad thing, it’s great to see the show come out of it’s comfort zone and bring us something special that we wouldn’t think this show is capable of sometimes. This was just a brilliant episode from start to finish. This episode alone is why I love Fluttershy a lot. Oh but besides Fluttershy, there was actually another character really portrayed really well. And that was Rainbow Dash. Seriously, just compare Rainbow Dash’s treatment of Fluttershy in this episode to as far back as Dragonshy from Season 1. That alone show how much Rainbow has grown. And it’s great to see her act really well when early in the season, things really were not looking up for Rainbow after Mare-Do-Well. And instead of just giving up when the record wasn’t possible, Rainbow forgets all about it and just goes for getting the job done almost immediately. Even though this wasn’t a Rainbow episode. This might have subtly helped me later think of it really well as Rainbow slowly became my 2nd favorite after Season 3 and during Season 4. It’s a shame Cindy Morrow seemed to have fallen a bit on her quality in Season 3. One Bad Apple and Apple Family Reunion were not good showings for her. I hope that if she returns in Season 5, she brings back the magic in her writing that produced Hurricane Fluttershy.
And now the last of my three favorites of the season: Canterlot Wedding. This episode is a bit of a hit and miss for some. While it was received well when it first aired, it’s since kinda become a love it or hate it kind of thing. Where those who look a little more deeply in to the show kinda nitpicked it to death. And even those who liked it, some may see it now as more of a guilty pleasure. But personally, I still love the episode and I’m not even going to downgrade it to saying it’s a guilty pleasure. I legitimately enjoy and like this episode like any other good episode of the show. I acknowledge that Shining Armor and Cadence kinda came out of nowhere and would have liked a little more foreshadowing to them. And maybe in retrospect Chrysalis wasn’t that smart of a villain. But here’s the thing. I liked both Shining and Cadence. I think part of it is the songs and flashback that gave us a little more exposition. I can’t hate any character that makes Filly Twilight smile like she did in the flashback during the B.B.B.F.F. song, and the same thing goes for the adorable things Cadence did with Filly Twi in her flashbacks. And This Day Aria for a time was the only FiM song I really, really loved. And Chrysalis came out of nowhere in a completely good way. In that it took me by surprise as the only hint we got to the changelings prior to the episode was the Main 6 beating up clones of themselves in an ad for the episode. But that didn’t point to shapeshifting alien bug race. I think the show is best when it really surprises you. The first time we watch the show is a surprise as a show about My Little Pony is actually enjoyable. And when the show exceeds expectations we get that same feeling. Until Season 4 arrived, regardless how nitpicked it was by then. Canterlot Wedding stood firm as my favorite two-parter. It wasn’t exactly ending an arc like all the other Finales were. But it certainly made it feel like Season 2 was ending off with a bang. And while there are some that still aren’t that fond of either Cadence or Shining Armor. I feel they haven’t really done anything wrong in the series. Shining Armor’s been kinda forgotten. Or at least everytime he attempts to fight he’s nerfed immediately. Both Tirek and Sombra made his magic useless. And I feel Cadence has been used well in Season 4. I think she was well done in Three’s a Crowd, Equestria Games, and Twilight’s Kingdom. And she even provides a bit of fridge brilliance to Twilight’s future ascension to Alicornhood. How you ask? Well let’s talk about the two main versions of love. There is platonic love and romantic love. Cadence is the latter, being the Princess of Love she’s the one princess who marries and also protects the Crystal Heart which is powered by the love of the Crystal Ponies. Twilight of course is Platonic Love, or otherwise known as Friendship. And therefore the Princess of Friendship as said in Twilight’s Kingdom. Both of them have proved to be powerful sources of Magic throughout the series and it makes sense that there’s be a central figure for those concepts. You know what’s the kicker? Twilight and Cadence are sisters. Sisters-in-law. But Sisters nonetheless. Oh and another good thing about Cadence is that Hasbro can have it’s pink princess so Celestia toys can finally be at least a little more show accurate by making it White. While I know that unless you read the comics you don’t exactly get a lot of personality from the two characters much of the time. I think they’re still fairly enjoyable characters in their own right, and while the concept of them sound Mary Sue-ish (A previously unknown character that is the sibling of a main character, another alicorn, etc.). I think they’ve for the most part avoided what makes a Mary Sue a true Mary Sue: They’re not invincible, and they’re not taking too much spotlight from the main characters. And ultimately, they’re more likable then any Mary Sue you can think of. Though personally between you and everyone else, I think those complaining about Mary Sues have lost all contact with what a Mary Sue is when people started saying Twilight has become a Mary Sue after ascending to Alicornhood. Season 4 even showed that she is not infallible, nor has she taken over the show with her princesshood like some people feared she would. But I’ll get to more of that when I get to the Season 3 and 4 retrospectives. Canterlot Wedding at the time it aired was the most epic, had probably the best action sequence of the show, and as I said a way to finish off a great season with a bang. I think we can all thank the staff for turning what is probably the most obvious executive meddling even compared to future ones that people complained about like Alicorn Twilight and Rainbow Power. Cadence and Shining Armor is the only one of those that have come out of nowhere, yet they managed to fit them in decently enough. It really could be a lot worse with out of nowhere important characters. Do I need to remind you how bad it would be if they would reintroduce Flash Sentry as not only a recurring character but Twilight’s boyfriend? Or adding a 7th Element of Harmony just to add a new main character? (Which some people were afraid Sunset Shimmer was going to be)
Now to the honorable mentions. Return of Harmony introduced what was at the time, and still was for quite a long while the best villain the show had to offer in Discord. He provided a great foil to the Main 6, Twilight especially. And John DeLancie’s performance was excellent. Is it any wonder the staff thought that any chance to have more Discord would ultimately be preferable then not to return him? Plenty of memorable and hilarious moments that made sure Season 2 would also begin with a Bang.
The Last Round-Up… Derpy drama aside was probably the hardest I laughed at an episode during the season for maybe the exception of Lesson Zero. I thought Pinkie was absolutely hilarious in Last Round-Up. How she reacts to AJ breaking a Pinkie Promise and “Rarity, catch me!” were especially funny. And it helps the episode’s conflict was believable, the town was counting on Applejack to win so she could get the prize money to fix damages to the town to the point that AJ was afraid to go back without the needed amount of money. So she had to take a lot of time at a job in order to try to slowly get that money instead. Perhaps the episode could of been shorter if AJ just came up and told her friends she didn’t win the prize money. But I think it’s part of how she’s a tad stubborn and a bit prideful where she didn’t want to outright admit it. The humor along with a heartwarming if a tad cheesy ending, made this episode one of my favorites of the season.
Read It and Weep is actually the episode that planted the seeds for how Rainbow would eventually become my 2nd favorite. Rainbow might have been known more as pretty much the sports jock, but Read It and Weep exposed for the first time that Rainbow’s also a bit of a nerd herself. And a different type from what Twilight is. The one who for the first time gets into a popular media, pretends to others that he’s not into it even if their closest friends are into it. But ultimately later embraces it. I think personally that there’s probably a lot of people in the fandom currently that was like how Rainbow was in Read It and Weep for when they watched this very show for the first time. It’s this feeling of this episode being a bit meta, regardless if it was intentional or not. That really makes me love this episode. Maybe it was a too obvious “Read a book!” kind of episode. But the moral was Don’t Judge a Book by it’s Cover. Which is a metaphor for quite a lot of things.
Hearts and Hooves Day was just really hilarious, Sweetie Belle’s “OH COME ON!” is still one of my highlights for funniest moments of the entire show. Speaking of Meta things in this show, you can kinda get the feel that this could be towards shippers in fandom. Again whether intentional or not, the show had a decent sized shipping fanbase by the time this episode aired. To the point that there were fans on dA that were demonizing Cheerilee from taking “Fluttershy’s Stallion”. I also kinda personally love the bit of a ship tease at the end. It can be interpretated anyway. If you don’t support Cheerimac, you can say they did it just to tease the CMC and nothing more. But if you do, you can say they got together anyway but just got together on their own terms by starting over a bit. We even see Cheerilee walk with Big Mac in later episodes. So maybe they did get together, but also wanted to be a bit of a troll to the CMC. Personally as long as Romance in the show leads to occasional hilarious episodes like this one. I’m alright with it.
Onto Sisterhooves Social, which was also a brilliantly done episode by Cindy Morrow who would later write Hurricane Fluttershy in the same season. (Seriously Cindy, what happened to you during Season 3’s Writing?) Excellent characterization of both Rarity and Sweetie Belle (I think it’s thanks to this episode and Hearts and Hooves Day that Sweetie is my favorite of the CMC) and even Applejack and Applebloom were awesome as well. (It won’t beat “OH COME ON” but “One. Day.” is probably the funniest Apple Bloom moment yet.). Actually one thing I should note on what’s not in the episode. This is the first episode of the series where Twilight does not appear at all, not even for a few seconds long cameo. Only two episodes after Lesson Zero the staff quickly took advantage of what they could do and simply focus on what should be the major characters. Also I want to personally note a little something that I think this episode and Hearts and Hooves Day share is in the headcanon-y material that can result into a few things regarding episodes prior to when the episode aired. Before Sisterhooves Social aired the episodes were in order, Return of Harmony, Lesson Zero, and Luna Eclipsed. All of them were Twilight-centric in some way. Twilight had to defeat Discord, go insane, and try to teach Luna how to get acquainted with the world after how long it has been. That’s a lot for one girl to do, and she probably needed that break, and I think it’s why we ultimately don’t see her for the first time. No longer having to worry about learning a friendship letter any week or take care of a threat or someone important getting used to how the world is now. She took the time to get a much longer rest as possible. Another thing, going to Hearts and Hooves Day. Do you know what the episode that aired prior to Hearts and Hooves Day was? It was Read It and Weep. Which I personally think makes the scene where Twilight gives the book with the love potion recipe to the CMC make sense. Twilight had just gotten Rainbow Dash of all ponies into reading, she thinks the CMC are asking for a book just for reading purposes. Which I think is further proven when Twilight’s about to hand them another book when the CMC leave. While you could consider it coincidence, it’s certainly something to note and I think it’s not that hard of an obversation and makes Season 2 feel more sound continuity wise then Season 1 was. Like for once we can actually kinda feel like these episodes come one after another. There were a few more obvious ones such as the friendship letters being sent to Twilight (Which there were far more then 24 letters in that pile. I’m sure of it) or Fluttershy making an Iron Will-esque rhyme in Dragon Quest but I think I love the possibly more subtle continuity that can be seen from the first 4 episodes of the season to Sisterhooves Social and from Read It and Weep to Hearts and Hooves Day.
Sweet and Elite was the last Rarity episode for quite a while up until Rarity Takes Manehatten. But as with most Rarity-centric episodes they were good. Fancy Pants being an awesome one-time character, the scene where it switches between Twilight’s birthday party and the fancy party outside was brilliantly done. The only thing I really find odd about the episode is that Spike is missing from Twilight’s birthday party but eh it’d be nitpicking to say that’s a reason to dislike the episode even if I like Spike a little more then most Bronies do.
Though speaking of Spike, there’s Secret of my Excess that I consider one of the best Spike episodes even if character-wise Spike is out of his mindset when he starts getting greedy. But otherwise an enjoyable episode with great character moments from practically everypony. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash being “Good Cop, Bad Cop”, and Pinkie’s reaction to Sugarcube Corner’s destruction. Twilight also showing a lot of care for Spike (Also Twilight went to a pediatrician first for Spike. A doctor specifically for children. I think that’s a personal +1 to my Mother/Son thing for Spike and Twilight :) ). It wouldn’t be until Season 4 that we get at least one or two pretty good Spike episodes like this one.
And lastly Family Appreciation Day, this is actually quite hard to say about. Because I feel this is a bit of an overlooked hit. Even though it’s a good episode, it’s somehow at the same time an episode that’s easy to forget sometimes. It’s not like CMC episodes can’t be memorable. As Cutie Mark Chronicles, Sleepless in Ponyville, and most of the ones in Season 4 have done. Just for some reason this one isn’t. But nonetheless, I count it as an honorable mention for the Season. When a show has a forgettable episode that’s still all-in-all a good episode I think that only increases the show’s worth.
On to the other stuff. I think the Music really got better in Season 2. Not that the Music was that bad in Season 1. But it seems like Ingram had a much higher budget or something by the time Season 2 began and even so on as Season 3 and Season 4 also had impressive music. My favorite in particular was by far This Day Aria for being such a great villain song. Well technically it’s only a half-villain song as it’s both sang by Cadence and Chrysalis. It’s just well sung at both ends, and probably one of the many reasons why I actually liked Cadence and Canterlot Wedding as a whole despite the sometimes rather harsh criticism of Cadence’s existence and the two-parter itself What always seems to give me chills is a part of Chrysalis’ part where she says “In my heart, there is no room” in a real high pitch while the camera moves to where her shadow is. This Day Aria was the first song I truly enjoyed a whole lot. Something about it that I just felt gave it an edge over all previous songs. Even such hits as the Smile Song, Winter Wrap-Up and At the Gala for me. It’s been so long that I can’t remember exactly why that was. But I think it was really a turning point as I think I started appreciating the show’s music more then I did previously. Which turned out to be a good thing as future seasons would have some more pretty good songs.
On my least favorite episode of Season 2. I’m not going to say really too much as you could literally find why Mare-Do-Well is so disliked pretty much everywhere. But the basics is that pretty much the Main 6 were all jerks in some way, Ponyville has somehow become as danger-prone as Townsville from Powerpuff Girls, a Fan Club for Rainbow Dash shows up that never is shown or referred to again, and I think I said before that besides the whole superhero thing. The episode isn’t really that entertaining anyway. As Rainbow’s ego is taken a little too far. To the point that it seems like the Rainbow in Mare-Do-Well can be like what people who hate Rainbow Dash think she’s really like. The episode is just one of the lowest lows the show has gone to. And luckily not even most of the other weaker episodes has reached quite. This episode is also the main reason the mere mention of Merriwether Williams is bound to get some rather worrying reactions from fans of the show. While Merriwether Williams would later get some actual hits to her name. Wonderbolt Academy and Bats in particular. It would not be the only episode Merriwether would be criticized. She was the new scapegoat writer, which Dave Polsky was previously in Season 1. Her work on Putting Your Hoof Down and Dragon Quest would also get her flack for including more mean-spirited scenes whether it was too much intentionally (Fluttershy insulting Rarity and Pinkie in PYHD) or even unintentionally (In the case of some of the Ponies in Dragon Quest). It can be a bit weird because Williams has written well for other cartoons. Including the much beloved older episodes of Spongebob such as Band Geeks. It just seemed like for a while her style of writing just didn’t fit in with Friendship is Magic. Even when we thought she figured it out in Wonderbolt Academy, she then gets Spike at your Service which I’ll get to next time. It’s hard to say if Merriwether has improved recently. She only got one episode in Season 4 with Bats!. Which I believe most consider a good episode. Still the way she went from Wonderbolt Academy to Spike at your Service is a reminder that just because a writer manages to strike gold with one, it doesn’t mean they could go back to their old habits of what they did wrong before.
And lastly my guilty pleasure episode.. Which is MMMystery at the Friendship Express. This episode gets flack sometimes for people really not liking how Pinkie’s friends ate the cake on her supervision. But nonetheless I kinda liked the interaction between Pinkie and Twilight in this one that was a lot more positive then in Feeling Pinkie Keen. And I found Pinkie’s Flashbacks for each of the bakers really hilarious on my first watch. It’s also a bit of a filler episode as right after it would be the big finale of Canterlot Wedding. It’ s not an as much really hated episode like some of the other Season 2 episodes can be. But it’s not really seen in anyone’s Top lists for Season 2 either. MMMystery is just fun. That’s really all I have to say.
Season 2, full of ups and downs. Remains a really memorable season that really ramped things up much further then anything in the first season. And also led the way for the future. Until Season 4 came around, it was my favorite season for many of the reasons I detailed here. And even though it is no longer my favorite season. Quite a few moments from the Season will remain close to my heart regardless. As the show would not be the same without many of them. Season 2 just feels like the place where the show really hit it’s stride both in the show itself and when the popularity of the show started getting it’s expanse as it is now. As the biggest explosion of new fans happened shortly before Season 2 began. Giving many new fans something to really watch every week and love it enough that unbeknownst to them. And as hard to believe as it is, an additional 13 episodes would be enough to shake the entire fandom to it’s core.
