Season 8 is now officially over. First, I must apologize that for the first time I wasn’t able to have an episode response for every episode. This wasn’t a case of me having disinterest, it’s just so many things going on and especially focusing on stuff like the speculation for Smash Ultimate hasn’t left me with much time to think about a episode response for every episode. Even then, I’m only missing out on 4-5 episodes. So I still got most of it at least. Season 9 is implied to be the last season, I hope to be complete with that maybe but who knows. But anyway, thought I’d give some brief thoughts about each of the episodes that I did not give a response, then to Father Knows Beast, then at last the Finale.
HEARTH’S WARMING CLUB
A very sweet episode where we learned a little more about Gallus where he’s kind of like an orphan in the griffon village. It was just a pretty adorable episode that was probably the more generally enjoyable compared to Matter of Principals that aired directly before. On another note, I’m not sure if I will have a response for the Christmas special coming soon after all. Maybe if there’s something I particularly want to respond to but otherwise may just ignore it if there isn’t anything.
A ROCKHOOF AND A HARD PLACE
This episode was kind of dark when you really think about it. Rock hoof wanting to become a statue may have been a G-rated “Kill me” cause he thinks he just does not fit in pony society now. Which I don’t know if that was the intention, but certainly is quite an awkward subject to tackle if so.
SOUNDS OF SILENCE
That was an amazing episode, the Kirin, especially Autumn Blaze were pretty damn cute and it also probably had the best song of the season. Just a fun episode with yet another new half pony species. Definitely among the Top 5 this Season
FATHER KNOWS BEAST
Now on to a bit on the last episode I did get a response for. Father Knows Beast does get kind of awkward in the middle with Sludge obviously fooling Spike. I kind of knew Sludge wasn’t really Spike’s father from his introduction scene. While Spike is sometimes the butt of the joke, I never really thought they’d give him an awful guy like him as his legit birth father. So it just came down to Spike eventually realizing that. Which can make the episode kind of drag, So I’m not sure if I can really recommend this episode as a good Spike episode. But I know one thing. I absolutely love that ending! You haven’t been paying attention to my blog if you don’t know why~
SCHOOL RAZE
WHEW this was an interesting end. Right away, I’ll say I think it’s the best finale ever since Season 4’s. Though still doesn’t quite compare to Season 4’s (That’s hard to do though, Season 4’s finale is my favorite episode of the whole dang show). I never felt any itching problems that bothered me after Season 5 and 6’s finales and I was a little more invested then I was with the 7th Season’s finale (Not that it was dull or anything, but I don’t think I was quite as interested into the Pillars as others). Absolutely crazy that our main villain this season was a little filly gone insane. This was also why I was kind of taken aback with the ending of the episode with Cozy’s debut. It seemed to make it look like she’s not bad, but I knew from Synopsis leaks that she had a hand in the Finale’s events. Though it’s kind of made a little more obvious with the foreshadowing in two other episodes later.
Cozy though got the harshest punishment since Tirek too. He’s stuck there with him in Tartaurus. I guess it’s because she wasn’t exactly remorseful, but it is a bit of a strange contrast that Cozy is the one sent to Tartaurus when we’ve had so many endings with reformations for the villain. An argument could be made Starlight’s action in Season 5 were just as if not worse then Cozy’s if you feel time shenanigans are a no-no on that level. It’s the only thing that might be a bit of a debate about this episode but compared to Starlight actually being reformed and all of Chrysalis army betraying her all at once it’s probably actually welcome that we’re debating about a character that WASN’T reformed for once.
GENERAL SEASON 8 THOUGHTS
The 2nd half of Season 8 definitely perked Season 8 up a bit. The first half wasn’t terrible by any means. But other then the opening, Spike getting wings, and the Seapony/Hippogriff episode there wasn’t much I felt too excited for. Season 8 will probably go down as the most average season for me. Because my current rankings are
4 > 2 > 7 > 5 > 1 > 8 > 3 > 6
The Student 6 are definitely fine characters and will like to see them again next season. Albeit next season is the Final one. So there’s likely going to be quite a bit of wrapping up stuff. Wonder what they’ll do with Chrysalis for example. I hope at the very least the staff were told beforehand this would be the last season so they can go into it writing a final wrap-up to the series. I have no idea how they’ll go with the series finale. But it’ll be exciting, even if a bit bittersweet.
But before we get to Season 9, we still have a Christmas Special and at least one or two more EQG specials from what I hear. Though for me, I have a Smash Bros. game to look forward to in December. Super looking forward to that for sure. But regarding pony it will be a little while I imagine till’ Season 9. But I’ll be sure to see you then! ^^
