Mean 6 felt like a bit of a strange episode to me, you had the big return of Queen Chrysalis. A villain that was a big threat in 2 finales in the series…

But it feels like all they did was simply humiliate her. It’s not a secret that Chrysalis wasn’t exactly the best at plans. But not only is it confirmed she has been unable to start a new nest of changelings like some suggested she might. But all of her actions go unnoticed and the worst it gets is that the Mean 6 she has as underlings just simply ruin the Mane 6’s camping trip. The Mean 6 themselves are mostly a rehash of the discorded versions of the Ponies even down to being saturated down (Though not quite as grey as the discorded ponies were). Mean!Twilight at least feels new since while Twilight did go grey in the episode with Discord, she didn’t seem to change much. Mean!Twilight might also arguably be our most smartest antagonist in the show. She might of made a mighty threat if the Tree of Harmony hadn’t turned her back into the wood she was. Though that arguably makes her a bit of missed potential.

The Mane 6 never truly find out what was going on so for an episode that was hyping the return of a villain still on the loose. It certainly went in pretty strange directions. We could probably get a more serious Chrysalis return and conclusion in the 9th/final season. But for now it’s a little bit of a head scratcher.

Not saying it wasn’t an enjoyable episode though. Plenty of funny moments happening and such, but if you were hoping Chrysalis was still going to have a bit of dignity left after her defeat in Season 6. This episode was probably a disappointment on that end.

I should probably also go over some general thoughts on Season 8 seeing we’re now in the hiatus and we’re halfway through. I will say… it’s been ok. Just ok. I haven’t been quite into this season as I was at this point with Season 7 though I think this season at least had a better first half then Season 6 overall did. I think Surf and/or Turf as well as Molt Down are my favorite episodes of the season thus far. Break Up Breakdown was pretty entertaining too. The opener was intriguing but I’m kinda waiting to see where that all ends. All the other episodes I’ve kinda felt some eh factor to.

I also already know the synopsis for the rest of the season thanks to a leaked list I got. I won’t say specifics. There’s only one episode that I’m really interested in, though there are a few that could be interesting as well but otherwise don’t see much that could raise my currently “ok” opinion yet. We’ll have to see if the second half surprises me once that starts in the fall. I’ll seeya then!
