CAMPFIRE TAILS THOUGHTS

This episode was neat collection of 3 tales based on different region mythologies. And as well seem to tie-in a bit with a certain series of comics.

Though before I get to talking about the 3 just a quick mention of the plot that goes outside the story-telling. It’s nice to see the location we remember from Sleepless In Ponyville again. Plenty of continuity from that episode remains, and Scootaloo even still is a little scared of some camping things after that ordeal. Though when the Flyders arrive they may make anyone who if Equestria was actually a place we could go to might give some second thoughts. If we thought mosquitoes are bad, the flyders are far worse. Maybe just avoid going to any forest areas in Equestria?

But the main thing about the episode were the stories for sure so let’s get to those now.

The first story is based on Vikings. Though as cute as Apple Bloom’s excitement for the story is, it’s probably the weakest of the 3 stories since Rockhoof becoming his buff self is a bit sudden. That said it is a pony legend so I’m not going to rag on it too much. It should be noted though it might disappoint people who liked the comic story with Rockhoof in it since supposedly that story (Though the stories in this episode are a prequel to the comic stories for each of them) has him always in his buff form and may have suggested that he earned that strength and body over time. Nonetheless a neat story

But I think the story with Rockhoof easily gets overshadowed by what story Rarity told. This story could be something straight of ancient japanese folklore. Everything from a simple moral and even a great battle. The story kinda reminds me of a certain flashback story heavy episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender from the 3rd season. It’s not an exact copy but some elements there remind me of it. Though I must say the Avatar one didn’t exactly have the happy ending this story did. If you’ve seen A:TLA you may know what I’m referring to.

And the final story is based on Greek/Roman mythology with brave warriors in centurion armor. This has a pretty awesome action sequence too with Flash Magnus flying away from dragons using a fireproof shield as his only protection to save his friends.

All-in-all the stories are definitely something that sounds  like they’d be inspiring to the 3 adults when they were fillies. And we got a nice bit of what ponies consider legendary. And some cute sisterly bonding (Even between the two characters who aren’t sisters by blood) throughout the episode. So a nice little cute episode.

Next time we meet Thorax’s brother who seems to not be taking the new changeling forms well to resist his brother as mentioned in Triple Threat. We’ll have to see how this goes. Seeya then!
