MOVIE MAGIC (EQG SPECIAL 2/3) THOUGHTS

Onto the 2nd of the 3 EQG specials we got.

As I said at the end of the Dance Magic thoughts. Movie Magic is my least favorite of the 3. But that’s not to say I dislike it. Just episode wise on it’s own it doesn’t have as much for me as the other two did.

Unless you’re a huge fan of the ol’ Scooby-Doo formula it’s not an episode that does a lot new. Though certainly with the potential to combine Scooby-Doo with magical girl elements with those powers they have. And they certainly try to included them, but kinda makes the whole chase scene irrelevant when you’re thinking “Couldn’t Dash just speed up to catch the culprit?” or even “Couldn’t Twilight use her telekinesis to stop them?”.

But yeah, the whole episode is basically a Scooby homage. The only way it could be even more Scooby-esque is if Juniper had said meddling kids or if Human Twilight have said jinkies and/or lost her glasses. Cause you had the red herrings, the chase sequence, heck even the talking dog counting Spike.

Kinda neat though to see what EQG does with Daring Do. It seems that in EQG world Daring Do is indeed a fiction. Unlike the surprise in Equestria where Daring Do is actually secretly a real thing happening. We also got a nod to the Power Ponies as for a time they’re put in humanized versions of the costume. Though I’m wondering if it certainly made fans suddenly think on how it’s weird EQG Dash’s superpower is super speed when that was Pinkie’s in the Power Pony episode in the main show. But eh, not too much of a big deal.

As for Juniper I may actually save much of my thoughts on her for the 3rd EQG special since she plays a big part there as well. But it’s certainly something that she goes from a typical Scooby-Doo antagonist to an outright vengeful villain in the next special. But let’s save all that for next week for no doubt where you liked it or not probably was the most juicy of the three episodes for multiple reasons. Seeya then.
