FLURRY OF EMOTIONS THOUGHTS

Ah, Flurry Heart. A character that’s left the fandom pretty nervous since her debut in the opener of Season 6. I’ve kinda been neutral to her. To be honest at this point I don’t care about the whole she’s an Alicorn thing. I don’t watch this show merely for the lore and whether it makes sense for magical talking ponies to get wings when they already have horns and/or if the constant debate if they’re that lesser then Celestia and Luna. I’m ultimately here for the characters.

When Cadence was introduced I liked her, though she certainly didn’t provide a lot of character. But it was more then enough to establish how close she was with Twilight when she was younger. When Twilight ascended I felt like it was a reward for all she’s done in not just the series but her hard work as Celestia’s student. I still stand by that Twilight certainly earned her status.

As for Flurry Heart though while I don’t necessarily hate her but I’m not sure there’s a lot I like about her either. Being just a superpowered baby you don’t usually get much of an impression because often babies in fiction aren’t there to show personality but just cause a crazy situation for our main characters when they attempt to babysit them.

On the bright side, this episode does have a case where Flurry does seem to show some emotion and even a bit of a hint on how the family life has gone for Cadence and Shining. And it’s definitely not been easy on them, but that’s good because a common complaint has been Shining and Cadence don’t get challenged a lot in Slice of Life situations. And the couple learning to be parents definitely could serve as the most relatable for young adults can be to the couple.

Twilight’s interactions with Flurry are also very cute. Though I did kinda get a little tired of the Best Aunt Ever thing Twilight was doing. Though I think some pointed out maybe if Twilight had gotten Spike to help a little more some of the situations that happened may have not happened or at least stopped more quickly then it was.

Back to a little bit on Flurry though even though she is a superpowered baby through and through we got hints of her personality like being pretty smart and wanting to stop potential friends from fighting like Pound and Pumpkin Cake were. And her tamper tantrums if she doesn’t have her Woomy plush (On another note with these moods, I already feel bad for Shining and Cadence whenever Flurry reaches her teenage years).

Even though I was kinda worried about this episode, It wasn’t as bad as I expected and perhaps that could be due to lowered expectations. But of the two babysitting episodes I’d certainly take this one over Baby Cakes. I still don’t think it’s really so good that it’s recommendable even to those who usually get tired of plots like this. But definitely a more serviceable example compared to most.

Next episode we have the return of Maud. Potentially as a more permanent recurring character since it involves her possibly moving to Ponyville.
