ALL BOTTLED UP THOUGHTS

Before I get into my thoughts on the episode I probably should mention a bit of an explanation for the reason I went with something not really too related to the episode. Just like Genie Pinkie was hoping in the first few frames, before we knew what the episode was really about I was getting my fingers crossed that the episode was going to be somewhat genie related. Which regardless of how they did it regardless if it was a new genie character or even a temporary genification of a character (The latter of which I was hoping for most) I would of been excited to see. The title plus the hints that this was going to be Starlight and Twilight related made me think it was a strong possibility.

But alas it was not at all. But I prepared for that occasion by thinking of the scenario that I chose to do for the Episode response. An alternate take of what I would of done if say I was given the task of writing an episode or story given only the episode title and the main characters involved. Something that the title still works but includes some personal genie involvement. If All Bottled Up had been genie related in any sense I would of definitely canceled this back-up plan and done anything I could to fit it in. Even if it introduced a new character of which would definitely have different rules from the genies I have. I would of used the Genie dimension as an excuse to still see them appear but the Genies would likely help them get back unless I loved the character so much that I’d keep them around. Not that it matters much, but just thought I’d give the story on that.

But how about enough talking about a personal alternate take on All Bottled Up. And get to what the episode did.

I will start off that while I didn’t like No Second Prances I am kinda enjoying Trixie being a more recurring character. As while she still kinda is a polarizing character she makes an interesting personality to clash with Starlight. I only wish Trixie and Twilight didn’t have that much disdain towards each other like they do because I feel after Magic Duel, Trixie could be a little more thankful to Twilight for getting that amulet off her. And even Twilight herself overreacts to Trixie being around. I understand some say it’s a pretty relatable situation where you have a friend who has another friend you can’t stand sometimes. But it just didn’t make much sense character wise to me in the debut episode for Trixie and Starlight’s friendship. But regardless there’s plenty of fun that has resulted of Trixie being a little more prominent. Much of this episode included with the opening scene with Trixie getting excited over her first transformation spell.

While it’s something that’s a little obvious it is interesting to hear the talk about the magic of unicorns being tied to emotion and envisioning the spell being done. It’s not something that’s been brought up on how that works in Equestria though it was pretty easy to guess.

I don’t have too much to say about the puzzle room sideplot the Mane 6 go through. Though it does make me think now that Twilight would love Professor Layton or other puzzle video games.

When the map table disappears some thought that might be weird since that was thought to have been connected to the castle. Though when Twilight time travels the table is literally all that’s left. So in that sense it does seem to be separate, and we have seen the thrones are movable (Spike’s throne has been put next to Rarity sometimes though in this episode it’s back next to Twilight’s throne). So it all checks out.

It is a little interesting to have a literal sense of bottling your anger up. While I certainly wish it were ponies being bottled rather then simply angry smoke it’s something that fits. Should be noted I went with a double meaning myself with the episode response. What with leftover greed.

Overall a pretty enjoyable episode. I do rather prefer Celestial Advice for it having some great Celestia moments for the first time in a while. But for those who are fans of Starlight and/or Trixie it’s certainly a fun episode with a nice moral that’s represented literally in an interesting literal matter, a nice song by the Mane 6 and some good comedy. It may not have been the genie episode I wanted but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t get some enjoyment out of it.
