Here we are with the final normal episode of Season 6. And wouldn’t you know it, it’s another map episode. Not only that, but actually pretty interesting one. I think it already outdoes the Las Pegasus one though certainly not above Griffonstone still. But still between this one and Griffonstone, maybe the secret is to have Rainbow in a Map Episode.
Which is also kinda funny since poor Rainbow hasn’t had the best luck with episodes this season aside from the Daring Do one earlier. I’d say Season 6 has been the roughest time for Rainbow since early Season 2. Cause just when Rainbow achieves her dream of becoming a Wonderbolt is a little mired by the rather mixed opinions on the episode. I’m not one of those who hates Newbie Dash, but even I kinda view as a bit of a disappointment when you consider that’s the episode Rainbow achieves her dream results in that when previous huge accomplishments and/or developments had proper celebratory stuff for them. I think I may have said this before somewhere, but that doesn’t mean I’m exactly expecting a musical celebrating Rainbow like Magical Mystery Cure did for Twilight or Crusaders of the Lost Mark did for the CMC but certainly something. It doesn’t help Rainbow also got 28 Pranks Later which albeit executed much better, reminded many of the headache of Mysterious Mare-Do-Well.
But I think at least for this case this was a good Rainbow involved episode with Rainbow even showing some of the first signs of companionship with her idol-turned teammate Spitfire. And it’s generally cool to see the new Wonderbotl Academy newbies have an admiration for Rainbow. The episode already has a little more of celebrating Rainbow’s Wonderbolt status then a lot of Newbie Dash did with that small scene alone.
On a side note in that scene there is another Make-a-Wish voice acted pony. This isn’t the first time that’s happened in this show given there was that hindleg wheelchair pony. But it’s kinda fun to see that pony of that kid get to directly tell Rainbow and Twilight they’re her favorites. Pretty classy stuff.
Sky and Vapor Trail turned out to be a fun duo of characters. Sky looks like he’s going to be a straight-up cocky jerk, but the story we find out later from Vapor really puts things in perspective with things like Sky being a part of a pretty big family trying hard to get attention, and Vapor Trail having too overbearing of parents. And as a duo they do pretty amazing stuff. I also imagine these two are going to be a pretty popular ship between themselves.
Overall, a pretty nice episode to end the normal episodes of Season 6. Next up is the Finale, again I’ve already seen it. But I’ll share what I have to say next week anyway. So seeya then for the wrap-up to Season 6.
