BUCKBALL SEASON THOUGHTS

Buckball Season was surprisingly fun, I can understand if those who aren’t too into sports may not find a lot to like in the episode. But in general the episode feels like its for those who certainly are, down right to the moral.

What I mean by that are the kids who dream of one day playing in pro sports. Those kids will have to learn about things like the pressure of representing people whether that’s just their school, their city, or even their entire country as well as coaches that might push them harder then they’d like. And some take pressure differently, in the case of people like Rainbow and Applejack it motivates them. But others like Pinkie and Fluttershy get unnerved when reminded of the expectations and feel better when they can just get in the fun of the game without worrying about the pressure.

Even those in the pros can get like this, it’s why some superstar players may play really well in the Regular Season but all of a sudden when the Playoffs come around where just one bad mistake can lead to a loss against an equal-leveled team they could quickly become the scapegoat if the team is eliminated out of the playoffs.

Even besides all that, the episode has a degree of a fun because of the sport which I find kinda intriguing in that it uses all 3 main pony types. It’s a bit of a variation of Basketball with some interesting variances in it with a player holding the scoring basket and having to use hand (or well horn)-eye co-ordination to catch the ball for points and the Pegasi plays the role of a goalie that would be reminiscent of Soccer.

One surprise from this episode was also how funny Snails was. We don’t really get a lot of Snails on his own since he’s usually paired up with Snips in the role of simply the duo of less-then-bright kids. But in this episode at least he’s really competent in showing catching skills and of course his amusing lines later on in the episode.

I know another reason people may not enjoy this episode is how much AJ and RD push Fluttershy and Pinkie in their training. But at the very least it’s good to see AJ and RD realize it themselves rather then having to be told for once and again it’s a significant part of the moral where pushy coaches also don’t work for everybody

So while part of it may be is that I have a thing for sports, I enjoyed it for simply how surprisingly fun it was. I feel this will be one of those under-the-radar enjoyable episodes that not everybody will mention but otherwise is generally sound for who it’s aimed for.

Next episode is the final CMC episode this season. And it’s certainly going to be an interesting one with a new young griffin character. See ya then.
