Wow was this episode full of laughs! This has to be the funniest episode in a while. I think the last time I laughed this much throughout an episode it was for Make New Friends But Keep Discord last season. And that’s a good thing when an episode can match up with the craziness of a good Discord episode without having Discord actually in it.
Just a minute in and we get something that I’m sure will get a lot of use in this fandom with Rarity’s “NO SPOILERS” reaction.
The reporter also looks suspiciously like the infamous reporter from the Spider-Man series J. Jonah Jameson. “Pictures of Spider-Man” and/or “Pictures of Ponies” are sure to have a temporary revival in the meme part of things.
And now we’re introduced to a pretty big part of the episode with cutaways to each of the Mane 6 (And occasionally other characters) to their interviews to get more of a personal character view of what they thought at certain parts. This is something you’d normally see out of a Reality Show and/or a sitcom. And it certainly provides some of the funniest jokes in a long time while giving us a good look at the characters cause of their different reactions to an interview.
One of the cutest parts of the episode is Twilight’s “Sweep! Sweep! Sweep!” she did with Applejack and Rainbow as a response to trying to make things a little more fun in relation to the loud music they were hearing from upstairs
If there’s one thing most fans of this show love to see, is to see our ponies on the verge of a freakout. And about halfway through Rarity’s looking to have a real big one cause there’s so much going on that she gets worried about.
And upon Rarity wanting copies of herself we get a great callback to Too Many Pinkie Pies including… what seems to what could be one that got away? I’m sure it will be a one-off gag but that was certainly a “OMG” moment. Of course there’s also the possibility that was a Changeling too, since a changeling was seen far back in the background in the Season opener. But either way it’s great that even a gag like that can have an explanation behind it from previous episodes.
Rainbow Dash again does yet another impression. The staff must just really like the idea of Rainbow doing impressions of her friends. There’s been quite a lot of that. It started out small with the Twilight mocking in the Griffonstone episode last season but now in Season 6 you could almost swear Rainbow Dash has done at least one in half the episodes that have aired so far. Even if a good majority of them were in Newbie Dash. Heck, Rainbow even did a somewhat Starlight impression in Hearth’s Warming Tail even if that was of course in-story so it was more Snowfall then Starlight.
Amusing how Pinkie’s angel and devil rarities got sarcastic with her. You see the shoulder angel and devil a lot in cartoons, but they usually outright say what the moral choice would be or the bad choice would be. Not team up and say the bad choice only to tell what they were saying was a lie. Also a little funny thing is the Angel rarity has a halo made out of hay. Thus a hay-lo. Visual pun!
A little funny the most colorful designed pony of the six is the the least bright when it comes to stuff like the color and clothing. Then again the original incarnation of Rainbow Dash was somepony who did (“Rainbow Dash dresses in style”). And we love the fact this Rainbow is the polar opposite of that. Rainbow Dash is far from the brightest pony, but she’s certainly a fun character to watch even when she’s being a little adorable idiot. “That chair, not clothes” being one of those lines that defines that.
A fun thing you can do with this episode is relate this to Suited for Success. Cause in a lot of ways the way that episode went back then feels very important with how this one did. The reason the Mane 6 do what they think Rarity would want is because of how in Suited for Success asking what they wanted got Rarity panned by the critics and crowds seeing the results. But now Rarity is trusting her friends to do what they do best
individually to help out. If you loved Suited for Success this certainly makes for a great companion episode.
And as the episode ends on a sweet note (and one more gag from the daughter) the episode concludes. Again this is definitely one of the most fun episodes from the beginning to the very end there’s either a funny joke or a good character moment. I’d definitely say it’s one of the best this season thus far. Possibly 2nd place for me behind only Gauntlet of Fire. Once again Rarity focused episodes hit another ball out of the park. Sometimes you have to wonder what about Rarity makes it so the writers to do amongst their very best (This isn’t counting duo episodes) every time.
