I Dream of Twilight modblog
I'm personally not a fan of Bayonetta at all, actually. Because, while I do think her move set for Smash looks interesting, I still would have much preferred Shovel Knight over her.

I’m not big on Bayonetta as I’ve said (I’m just ok with it)

Just that Shovel Knight definitely needs more time. If Shovel Knight becomes a much-loved franchise by the time Smash 5 rolls around then ok. I’ll accept him.

At the same time though, you have Bayonetta. Who has fast-firing weapons on both her hands and feets, interesting combo set-ups, demon portal attacks, and Witch time. While Shovel Knight would be another sword user. Shovel Knight could still be unique, but his shovel is still used the same way a sword could be used to fight. I’m one of those who do the stupid “Too many swordsman” complaint but I’d still think it’s best to have a character with more potential to be unique with signature parts of their character that no other character has. Not many characters have the same amount of insane fast combo potential that Bayonetta has. Even If you have no knowledge of the games or the moveset just looking at the artwork of Bayonetta makes you think of the sheer potential of how Bayonetta uses those weapons. Looking at Shovel Knight without knowing the games you just imagine a generic swordsman just replacing the Sword with a shovel.

Bayonetta has been around for a decent amount of time (Since 2009) compared to Shovel Knight (who was released less then a half year before Smash 4 ). Establishing herself as a franchise with 2 critically acclaimed games and unique moveset potential you can imagine by just looking at one picture of her with her signature weapons. That’s why that despite not knowing much about Bayonetta that I find her a much more interesting pick then if Shovel Knight had. Shovel Knight was only a few months old when Smash 4 came out, and the fact you have to see what he does in the games just to see what unique things he can do when everyone who isn’t aware of him thinking he’s just a generic swordsman doesn’t help.
