We had our finale of the trilogy of Map episodes. This time involving Twilight and Fluttershy, which is actually a rather rare duo in the show.
I think over all the episode was just on the ok / average side. Nothing entirely bad about it, but it doesn’t feel anything special. It pretty much took the type of story it had by the book for the most part. Though one compliment you can say it did this story much better then when Avatar: The Last Airbender (AKA one of the best cartoons of all-time IMO) with The Great Divide. Because of that episode I had some fears for this episode like possibly Twilight and Fluttershy choosing a side in a similar way to how Katara and Sokka did and the episode would be dragged out by them involving themselves in the feud only to realize their stupidity before finally working together to end the conflict.
What happened instead was pretty much just Twilight trying many different ways she knows previously that solved friendship problems. But none of them working until ultimately Fluttershy saves the day with a story shared from the animals (Speaking of which darn are Equestria’s animals smarter then our own to be able to do that), with Twi’s magic freezing both sides so they’ll actually listen. It’s something that’s really predictable (You can call Fluttershy ultimately saving the day halfway through) but that’s what I mean when it’s by the book. It’s a good one though for those who haven’t seen this kind of story so younger fans will probably like it more then most of us who have seen this story so many times in other stuff.
I laughed when Twilight basically put her plot in Fluttershy’s face. Any TwiShy shippers out there certainly got their fuel there. And I couldn’t help but look at the McColts and the Hooffields as something out of Team Fortress 2. They were even Red and Blue, and the McColts accused Twilight and Fluttershy of being spies. There are a few things already but I’m surprised that didn’t blow up already. I’m still waiting for a pic of the McColts and Hooffields dressed as the classes from TF2. SO there were certainly fun moments at times, and nice to see Twilight finally get her trip after being bummed twice the previous two Map episodes.
Speaking of the Map episodes though. I think the best one of the three was definitely the first one with Pinkie & Rainbow going to Griffonstone. Them seeing Gilda again and the comedy just made that the most interesting. Both this one and the Manehatten/Rarity/Applejack one were nice. But the Map episodes pale in comparison to how the Key episodes went in Season 4. Granted at least they avoided having another Rainbow Falls. But they also got nowhere near Pinkie Pride or Twilight’s Kingdom levels, and only the Griffonstone episode I can say can match up with some of the other key episodes like Rarity Takes Manehatten, and It Ain’t Easy Being Breezies. The other two are at least on Leap of Faith levels.
But anyway, we’re only two weeks away from the Season’s end. Next week is the final episode by longtime show writer Amy Keating Rogers as she’s going to work for Disney. So prepare to say goodbye to her next week. And then the big Finale after that. Seeya ^^
