Before I get to the actual episode I just want to shortly say something regarding episode leaks. As most of us are aware, this episode leaked a month ago. Now this show has had it’s fair history of leaking episodes early. For the exception of Season 1, at least one episode leaked per season. I fully remember Hearts and Hooves Day in Season 2, Wonderbolt Academy in Season 3, and Pinkie Pride in Season 4 all leaked before the episode’s real airdate somehow. But they were pretty much at most a week earlier, there hasn’t ever been a week this early for a particular episode before.
This was Episode 21, at the time it leaked we were at Episode 15 in the Season. An episode actually leaked 6 weeks before it was supposed to air! And we still had Friendship Games and episodes 16-20 to even get to! We’re very lucky that this episode didn’t spoil anything in particular of previous episodes. Imagine if the CMC had not had their flanks covered via their Halloween Costumes? Suddenly the surprise that they got their Cutie Marks in Crusaders of the Lost Mark would of not had that effect for those who can’t resist seeing leaked episodes and it no doubt wouldn’t have felt quite as special as it turned out to be. It’s a good thing this show is still mostly Slice of Life, but I can’t imagine how it’d be if it was The One Where Pinkie Knows if that was the one that leaked. Becase front and center we see the CMC with their Cutie Marks inexplicably since Crusaders of the Lost Mark wouldn’t have aired if that was the episode that leaked. Thankfully, a episode that doesn’t really have anything to follow up on the episodes was the one that leaked. But let’s hope a situation like that doesn’t happen again where a real surprise in the show may turn up.
But anyway, finally on to the episode itself. It was a real fun one, this is a episode for those who just aren’t into some holidays as others may be for one reason or another. It doesn’t necessarily always have to be just afraid of Halloween, it could even be just not quite getting Christmas or some of the other well-known holidays. Those who really, really, like Halloween may not be able to understand Fluttershy’s plight quite as well but as long as they’re as accepting as the rest of the cast who are pretty much similar they’ll get the message too. I personally really like Halloween, but I’ve kinda long grew out of it and haven’t participated in anyway in Trick or Treating in years. (Mainly because my family’s house lives too far out to be a plausible Trick or Treating destination. If I lived in a neighborhood that had things going on, I probably would be generous enough to buy bags of candy and give kids Halloween candy.) I have fond memories though as a kid dressing up as characters like Luigi, a Clone Trooper from Star Wars, Goku, Spider-Man, The Hulk, etc. So Halloween’s been good to me in the past. But I also understand some people could have some hesitation on Halloween especially if they’re really Shy and/or they get scared easily cause while I mainly dressed up as Pop Culture characters there are those who dress in the more scary fashion and in fact scare other people for entertainment. And some people just don’t like that happening on Halloween, but others live for the thrill. So Halloween can be a very mixed event, where getting free candy from generous strangers is great but if you end up meeting someone in a very scary costume or a house that makes you go through an obstacle course of creepy stuff and/or have jump scares to make you “earn” your candy. It may not be so fun being a little kid in that situation. So a negative opinion on Halloween can result, and it’s clear Fluttershy must of had a situation like that when she was younger. The point of this episode is for these young people to see this episode and see Fluttershy doesn’t like Halloween for similar reasons they don’t and that it’s fine to not like it and do your own thing. And that’s a good thing to cover.
So I’d say this was yet another good episode. My only complaint might be that Rainbow Dash was slightly back to her jerk tendencies of Early Season 2/Season 1 when she probably should be better then that. But otherwise, nice episode.
This week we get another dose of Discord, and I’m surely excited as the last one is still one of my favorites of this season. Seeya then ^^
