THE ONE WHERE PINKIE KNOWS THOUGHTS

Well, Cadence and Shining Armor are having a baby! And Pinkie goes insane trying to keep it a secret for 22 minutes of our time.

The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows is an amusing episode that pretty much goes on humor alone. As long as you go into the episode wanting to laugh, you should have a fine time watching the episode. The title is interesting too because it’s a reference to Friends, a pretty well-known sitcom. And the episode itself plays a lot like a sitcom. You even have cutaway gags such as when we’re shown Shining’s reaction to the room meant to remind him of room when he was just a colt. Honestly, the best parts of the episode are definitely when Shining Armor and Cadence have arrived. Cause we have about 7 minutes of Pinkie reaching her limits and rushing the rest of the main cast through a scavenger hunt (For those who complain about rushed pacing in some episodes, this is pretty much an example of fast pacing that’s completely on purpose).

Again I do have to praise how good Pinkie’s been doing this season. In an overall sense, Season 5 might have my favorite portrayal of Pinkie throughout one season. When the season before it kinda hit both highs with her character (Pinkie Pride) and lows (Filli Vanilli and a few moments in Three’s a Crowd).

On Shining and Cadence having a child though I do have some fears for whenever this baby makes their first appearance. (Though none of them involve the character being and/or named Skyla. Because Skyla was first made known to use before Season 3 even started. She’d be 3 seasons late if people are going to trash her for the executive meddling tag. Even if they do use Skyla as the name, I think it’d be more of a mythology gag then an outright case where Hasbro is forcing them to include in the show). The fandom’s probably going to be a nervous wreck while we wait to see if this baby will be born an Alicorn or not. Let me break it down.

If the baby is not an Alicorn. Then crisis should be about averted. If it’s not an Alicorn I’d likely guess it’d be born a Unicorn though it might be interesting if they didn’t do so. If it’s a Pegasus those who remember that there’s an official book that some take as canon that Cadence was a Pegasus prior to becoming an Alicorn. It could be seen as Cadence’s original genetics in place in the child. Though it’d be even weirder if it turned out to be an Earth Pony. I imagine if that happened the route would go that the child would grow up to envy his or her mother and father that they have the ability to use magic and/or fly while she doesn’t feel quite as special. But I doubt they go that route anyway because it would require at least a few years of a time skip. Which I doubt would go in-show, it’d probably only happen if the CMC got their own show as a sequel to FiM where they’re as old as the Mane 6 are currently.

But if it is an Alicorn… oh boy. I’m quite afraid of what happens no matter what. The fanbase has a history of drama relating to Alicorn characters. Starting with concern that the fandom would go nuts in a bad way over Luna’s characterization in Luna Eclipsed with ruined headcanons everywhere. Luckily it didn’t turn out so bad. But then other things happened like the introduction of Cadence as a 3rd Alicorn which could of gotten a lot worse reception still resulted in rather mixed reception. Then of course the granddaddy of all the Alicorn drama came with Twilight’s ascension. It wouldn’t be farfetched to say people have lost fandom friends over what should be a petty issue such as Alicorns given how much drivel came as a result of it all. But now we’d have a baby Alicorn as our 5th sure to be recurring Alicorn character. It being born one would probably warrant an explanation on whether this was the first time this has happened or not. Both of which are no-win situations with the fandom.

If it is the first time it’s happened that a pony is born an Alicorn. Then that means Celestia and Luna also had to ascend like Twilight and Cadence did at some point. Which would piss off people because it’d make this baby seem more special then all four of the previous Alicorns.

If it isn’t, then it will still piss off people because I believe most think Celestia and Luna were the only ones who were born Alicorns. And people will think they’ll push this baby character on the same level as Celestia and Luna. And possibly even devalue Twilight’s and Cadence’s ascension if you look at it from a certain angle.

I certainly hope I’m just overreacting and that the baby will just be a normal pony type. Though honestly on my own thoughts if it is an Alicorn I won’t mind that much. But I will be concerned if the fandom becomes as toxic as it was during Twilight’s ascension to Alicornhood all over again.

On a side note, at first when they said Shining and Cadence was held back a day. I thought that meant the baby was born earlier then expected. It actually just turned out to be a foreign meeting instead after paying closer attention on the 2nd watch. But I was about to wonder if the fandom was going to have the sudden freakout over to what the Baby will be. Though thankfully they didn’t rush it out just like that. But now we’ll have to wait until likely next season to see if we have our next fandom freakout over a new alicorn.

I know it’s kinda daunting to talk about possible incoming drama that starts with an episode that is just supposed to be innocuous fun. But history has shown that this fandom has gotten more hostile with each new Alicorn incident. I’d hate to have another incident like that of when Season 3 finished. So I hope my fears aren’t entirely unfounded, there’s many people I lost at least a little bit of respect for during that whole debacle. And I would rather not see a repeat of all that…
