Whenever a Rarity episode comes up, the smartest thing to do is usually come at the episode from an Artist perspective. Because for the most part, Rarity episodes often can be most relatable to those seeking an artist career. This episode is no exception. As this episode covers the dilemma of milking the heck out of one art piece that becomes a hit, or trying to get a variety out there even if altogether it may not be as initially successful as the “signature” piece.
Any good artist should strive for the variety, but sometimes you can get caught up in the success of just one of your pieces that you can’t help but keep doing the same pic over and over and/or pics similar to it because you know it’s successful. Especially when you really need the money. But do it too long and you end up having that picture as your only identity as an artist and you end up being a one trick pony (No pun intended given the show we’re talking about here…).
Rarity and Sassy represent the two sides of this dilemma as the episode starts. And the flaws of milking the signature piece is probably why Sassy had those failed boutiques that she implied she had before. It was also good that Sassy wasn’t an antagonist that planned on taking over Rarity’s new boutique because at first it seems like it was going that direction when Sassy steps in front of Rarity right as she’s introducing the boutique to their first customers.
Another fear I had was when I saw the synopsis that it was going to be a repeat of Sweet and Elite because the episode vaguely said that Rarity was getting a boutique in Canterlot but at a price she may not be willing to take. Which made me afraid it was going to be like that she would have to move to Canterlot and as a result less time to spend with her friends. Of which of course would end with her giving up the Canterlot Boutique and going back to Ponyville. But thankfully it avoids that and Rarity even gets to keep her expansion going by having Sassy who has learned her lesson heading up the boutique while the Ponyville one remains the home base. It leaves something that can return for if there’s another episode where Rarity returns to Canterlot either later this season or even next Season. Whenever there’s potential for continuity to show up again in the show it makes me happy cause it’s definitely something the later seasons have done quite a bit in comparison to earlier ones and is part of why I think the show’s improved.
Anyway, this is actually only Part 1 of what will be pretty much a Rarity-thon for the next 2 weeks. We’ll also have Equestria Girls 3 on the same day as the 3rd of these. So it will be an interesting time for sure. Next episode I’m kinda interested because it involves Rarity being Rainbow Dash’s defense when she’s charged with a crime she didn’t commit. Now, this may be just me since I’ve been playing a lot of Ace Attorney recently but I have this hope that Rarity will yell OBJECTION just for the fun of it regardless if it’s an intentional reference or not. (It definitely makes me feel I picked the wrong episode for an Ace Attorney reference to show up in Episode Responses given I’ve already did one for Make Friends But Keep Discord. But hey looks like I may get to do another one, I don’t mind really ^^)
