Well unfortunately I can’t say the streak continued here. But that’s not to say Princess Spike was a terrible episode. Just that it’s a little par for the course in terms of Spike episodes where they’re generally mediocre/average. The only exceptions regarding episodes being well-loved that are Spike focused are Secret of My Excess and Inspiration Manifestation, of course there is also an exception that goes the other way around where there’s a truly terrible Spike episode in Spike at your Service but yeah. The episode just won’t help Spike episode reputation in the fandom whatsoever.

I do gotta say there there were still plenty to enjoy from the episode. Sleep deprived Twilight was very cute. And if there’s one thing that was certain, Spike succeeded in his plan of helping Twilight receive her rest even if the methods bit him in the butt near the end. To Spike’s credit at least he got something done right instead of everything turning out bad for him.

Still though it’s a bit painful to see Spike go through yet another story where he’s feeling unappreciated and even gets a little greedy later on. Which has been seen already in a few previous Spike episodes. And another odd thing is the stuff that come to bite Spike in the ass later were part of things he was doing when he was trying to help Twilight legitimately as opposed to when he was being greedy with it. It’s as if the whole water pipe and dragon sneeze things were actually some sort of karma thing that was just waiting for Spike to mess up. Not really complaining about it, but it’s just weird since you think classic cartoon Karma goes are that the stuff the character did wrong is what leads to the bad karma hitting them as opposed to doing something they legitimately was trying to do some good and only strikes them after they had done something in the wrong.

In any case, next episode is a Pinkie episode. Possibly even the next Map episode given it seems to be a more adventurous type thing. Let’s see how that goes.
