I’ll just say right now that this became my instant favorite of the season so far even upon the first watch :D

I was really hyped for this episode upon hearing the synopsis and it didn’t disappoint whatsoever. Every single character in it was awesome. It was great seeing the Gala again and Discord provided the fun he always brings when he’s involved in an episode

What I also like about this episode is that I think it’s the first one I can say is truly Discord centric. I think every previous “Discord” episode felt like it had more focus on the Pony most involved then it actually did on Discord. Keep Calm and Flutter On was more about Fluttershy, Three’s a Crowd was definitely more so Twilight’s, and all two-parters Discord is involved in he’s most definitely not the main Character in them. But this one does feel like it focused the most on Discord, I can’t tell for sure but I think he had the most screentime. And even if he didn’t, it sure feels like he did. Almost every joke and/or crazy scene was because of Discord’s involvement.

Another thing I like is something I sorta expected but was glad to see. And that’s the Mane 6′s reaction to the Gala after they remembered the last time they were at the Gala they had such high expectations. This time they knew what the Gala was really like so they reserved themselves, even Pinkie knew to tone things down. Not only is this great use of continuity, but it shows that they all have grown since the end of Season 1. And that’s the best thing about it I think. They even warn the CMC that the Gala isn’t the life-changing experience that they thought it would be the first time they came.

Also this may be a little bit of an unpopular opinion, but I found the dresses the Mane 6 better then their Gala dresses. Mainly because they’re much more simplistic and less flashy. At the same time I think it also reflects their different expectations. As the Gala dresses are like that because they’re thinking it will be that personally fun for them that they needed dresses that ooze their personality almost to the point of advertising exactly who they are. But in this episode they have more par-for-the-course dresses as to suggest they’re just going to a fancy party just to mingle a little bit. In both sets they look cute of course but I think I just prefer the more simpler type that show up in this episode. But that’s just me I think, I’m not one fore the more out there type of clothes.

But yes, it was a really great episode and definitely a candidate for one of the best episodes of the Season. Even if that’s a little too early to say given we’re not even halfway through the season yet. But next week is the next of the Cutie Map arc stories that is a duo episode of Pinkie and Rainbow as they travel to the Griffon lands. Many speculate we could be seeing the return of Gilda, it’d be a great opportunity given both the ponies involved and the fact we will see Griffons no matter what. But will it happen? We’ll have to see ^^
