Okay first before I get into my re-thoughts I want to apologize for my last one on this episode. I made that too much on a reaction to ony watching it once. I’ve almost always stuck with a clear “watch it twice before truly judging”. Because I actually didn’t even watch Bloom and Gloom, the episode in this post, nor yesterday’s episode a 2nd time until today and they were all better watches the 2nd time around. Now what I have to say in this re-do is still slightly negative in that it’s still my least favorite of the season thus-far but I know I was a little unfair last time because I didn’t quite understand everything. So without further adieu, let me RE think about the episode a little.
Now, how about instead of just going with a little bit of good before almost immediately going to bad thoughts. I’ll say what I still find personal fault with the episode. Which is Rainbow’s brash action to sabotage the weather plant in Cloudsdale. I can forgive some of the other stuff now, but that scene still kind of rubs me the wrong way. Considering how this is supposed to be a bit of a parody of a Pet Dying episode. There’s many points in that scene where Tank could of actually died. Yeah imagine Rainbow going through the steps of grief after she actually killed her pet in an attempt to stop him from sleeping for 3 Months… o.O I don’t know, that scene will just bother me regardless.
But anything other then that I may have a bit too harsh on. Especially in asuming this is another blunder by Cindy Morrow. I still hold it doesn’t hold a candle to Cindy’s Season 2 work. But it’s definitely improvement from her Season 3 work and that’s all I should be asking for.
Also my issue of the first winter with Tank thing was just a huge nitpick. If there’s one issue the show has always had is getting passage of time between episodes and possibly even confusing anybody trying to make the series chronological in anyway besides obviously Seasons 1-3 and Seasons 4 and beyond are obviously split after Magical Mystery Cure. If I went on everytime the show confused me on this subject I’d be finding small things in even episodes I really like that confuse me. To quote a certain infamous Psychic hedgehog “IT’S NO USE” to try to understand passage of time in FiM considering how many things have confused us before such as the Moons time period mentioned in Equestria Girls or especially how the Season 4 opener implied all of Seasons 1-3 happened in one year somehow.
So there you have it, it’s still my least favorite of the season so far. But considering some true work was put into some really good character comedy and how it cleverly includes the Five Stages of Grief without having to actually tackle a heavy issue such as Death (Looking at you AJ’s Parents. Expecting at least a mention somewhere beyond two comets is how Apple Family Reunion turned out so underwhelming for me >:[ ). I can appreciate it a little more. Especially things such as the Who’s on First esque sketch and AJ cries on the inside.
Hope I showed I can be a little forgiving. I wasn’t exactly bashing the episode before, but it just goes to show how positive I like to be when I feel even this bad for something slightly negative like that. Hope this comes off a bit fairer ^^
