A game that is entertaining to find it’s bugs/glitches doesn’t make it a worthwhile game. And while I will say Sonic 06 probably has more on the entertainment value due to it’s reputation. That doesn’t make it a more competently designed game.
I think a big part of though is Game length. Even if by some miracle you go through 06 without having to repeat levels that take you more then 10 minutes because something bullshit killed you on your last life. The game is still very long, even without mentioning the loading screen. it’s simply too long of a game for Sonic. And most people who play the game for the first time will be spending hours and hours if they even dare try to push through the game. Especially if they don’t learn that they need to save every so often which is possible because they may have not got the warning that Sonic 06 doesn’t autosave.
Rise of Lyric however can be finished in one short weekend even on the occasion a game breaking bug might force you to restart the level. Rise of Lyric is more of a rental and/or bargain bin game where it’s not wise to buy it at full price but only having the game for a temporary amount of time for a small amount of cash or just waiting til’ it’s really cheap cause the game’s short enough that you can finish it in just a few days. Rise of Lyric is more of a game you can complete once fairly quckly and you’ll be all done with it afterwards even if you fairly liked it.
Though really, if you want to understand how I feel about 06. And if you have the time to see it, I would really recommend seeing the Great Clement’s review of Sonic 06. It’s 7 parts and the total runtime is about 3 hours but to truly understand why I feel it’s no contest that Sonic 06 is the worst in the franchise and likely always will be, it’s best to see it.
Similarly, my thoughts on Rise of Lyric are also pretty much akin with the thoughts of the same guy who made that Sonic 06 review where he posted his thoughts in a nearly half-an-hour vlog.
