Well just last Thursday was a direct for the ages where we were shown 50 things about the Wii U version of Smash. And the best thing about it being a numbered list of facts. Even easier to make individual thoughts on each one! So in the same order as it was shown in the Direct. I give you my thoughts on every single factoid we got from the exciting news that we got. Please click to read more as we get hyped for the 2nd time for the much bigger version of Smash 4!
That Smash 4 Wii U Direct was amazing! So much I could say was awesome. That’d I’d rather wait until I have more time to say my complete thoughts on what was shown. But I will say this… (Spoilers for the tail end of it)
No, it’s because I though with you beginning it with “Fair enough” in the beginning that it was a good enough stopping point xP But I suppose I’ll answer it here anyway then
“Fair enough, but from I’ve heard from a few sources, most of the users on Smashboards are the ones who trash those who have the audacity to have an "unpopular” opinion.“
Yeah it’s true that Smashboards does sometimes lead to countless debates between those who preferred Brawl or Melee that don’t lead to any progress whatsoever. Though I hear it was much worse years ago when at the time I had left Smashboards some time after Brawl had released (I hear 2009 was pretty much the peak of Melee Vs. Brawl debates on Smashboards). These days it’s apparently more subdued on Melee Vs. Brawl but there’s still occasional aftershocks that sometimes end up coming out if a thread basically calls out either game. At the very least, I think much of the opinions have been quarted down to an actual Unpopular Opinions thread they have going in the Smash 4 section which is just as easy as just ignoring the thread. Cause in an Unpopular opinions thread anyway, the very purpose of this threads is to vent some like for something that is really unpopular or dislike for something that is really popular without making themselves look like jerks that spread their opinion that they know would trigger a flamewar on places they shouldn’t.
At the very least, I don’t see alot of Brawl Vs. Smash 4, Melee Vs. Smash 4, or Project M Vs. Smash 4…yet, anyway. Or at the very least I’ve managed to avoid most of the threads with such arguments these days.
So I attempted Classic on 9.0 difficulty for the first time just to see how I would do. I only need 10 more checlists on the 3rd panel to complete it, and I still have 3 hammers, so more like 7, figured I’d give this one a shot.
…….this is going to be harder than I expected
What character did you use AppleShy? And did you use any equipment?
The Equipment gives you a far better chance at beating Master Core at 9.0 Intensity. Though it’s still not a sure thing. I’ve tried souping up many characters that I’m used to and even suggested options (Such as making Bowser and Ganondorf even stronger) but they all ended in failure.
But I eventually did it last weekend with Donkey Kong thanks to two particular things of Equipment in Combination: A Vampire Banana equipment as well as a Auto-Healer Brawn Badge. If you have any characters that have Vampire Equipment, I highly suggest you try that out. The Vampire stuff gives your character health if you strike a character directly. Which is helpful against Master Core and the Hands quite a bit because that’s all you essentially do against them (Projectiles just aren’t that safe to use :V)
I think you’re overexaggerating the base at Smashboards. While there are certainly elitists there that portray Melee as the most perfect game while trashing Brawl and even in some cases Smash 4 without a second thought just because “they’re not Melee”. It’s not overwhelming enough that everybody there follows that exact wording. Some people who like Melee the most anyway don’t even entirely follow that either. There are still dedicated Brawl (Project M I count as an extension of Brawl players) players, dedicated Smash 4 players, heck there are even players still dedicated to SSB64.
I personally am a member of Smashboards (While I did kinda disappear from there after Brawl came out, and came back when Smash 4’s speculation started) myself and while I have come across some dumb elitist posts every now and then. It’s actually not quite as much as you’d think, but maybe that’s because I spend most of my time in the Smash 4 forums where generally most people there are excited for Smash 4 if they’re talking about it. Barring the jerks that do one-off posts bashing the game.
I also think the people who were doing the research in the thread I posted are those who do plan on using either Pit and/or Dark Pit anyway. So it’s not like they’re making up that they’re almost exactly the same because they plan on using one of them or both. They’re not making up the results to make Dark Pit look worse. :P
Here’s the link of some research done with the two.
Yes it’s from Smashboards. I know you said this in your longer message:
“Now if you can prove to me that such information actually came from people who work at Nintendo and not from some stuck-up elitists at Smash Boards who do no research on the games whatsoever, then I’ll gladly concede in defeat.”
I’m sorry but I don’t think official Nintendo guides are going to ever be as in-depth as fans who take a look at every detail. And heck the thread I linked discovered at least one more difference in terms of the forward tilt. Congratulations! That’s still only 3 minor differences not counting the Final Smash. And these people are doing research.
“How could you say that Kid Icarus did not deserve three characters for the newest Smash Bros. game (considering that Uprising is one of my favorite video games of all time)?”
I know Uprising is a good game, but I’m not considering just one game. I mean the entire franchise. I haven’t played it, but I’ve watched a full Let’s Play and looks like a really good game. But I’m still hesitant on saying it deserves as much representation it got in Smash 4. If Sakurai had not directed Uprising, I doubt it’d have as much in Smash 4 as it does.
“And lastly, why hate on Palutena, since she’s actually one of my favorite mains so far?”
I don’t hate Palutena. I honestly warmed up to her after the last E3 or even technically as far back as the Smash Direct last April (That direct basically screamed PALUTENA IS A NEWCOMER with how many clues it had). Though I was more excited for both the Mii Fighters and Pac-Man that were announced in the same day.
I think Palutena is really all Uprising needed in terms of the roster. Since alot of her moves are related to that game. Dark Pit as a seperate character feels like overkill. Given how much Dark Pit and Pit are pretty much 95% similar in both character design and how they fight in Smash 4. Why wouldn’t just making him an alt for Pit similar to Olimar having Alph and Bowser Jr. having the Koopalings be better again?
I know, I know. But even so, I feel there are other characters that could be made Bonus but still feel like they have a place in Smash.
Dixie could of been a good choice to be like Diddy, or heck right now I bet Metroid fans would gladly have Dark Samus switch places with Dark Pit since at least Metroid would get a 3rd rep (Or 2nd if you don’t count ZSS) that people have wanted since it seems right now Ridley is still out of the question. (Unless this rumor I hear of characters being transferable via the Wii U version is true, but it sounds like desperation of fans holding on to one last cling of hope. But halleujah if somehow it’s true)
(I also said I liked Lucina at least)
Actually pretty much most places regarding Smash Bros. Dark Pit is a pretty unpopular character. And there is legitimate reasons for it.
1. Even in the game itself, he’s pretty much 95% a clone of Pit with even less differences then any of the Melee clones. If you’re good as playing as Pit, there’s practically nothing that makes Dark Pit better or worse.
2. His differences are also quite minimal. Like his arrows being harder to control but stronger, his side B does slightly more damage and launches opponents diagonally rather then upward like Pits, and his Final Smash is completely different. From Pit’s that is. It’s basically a clone of Zelda and Shiek’s Final Smash. Other differences obviously includes his taunts, victory poses, etc. but in terms of fighting there’s really only 2 things (Not counting item use such as Final Smashes) that make him different from Pit. Therefore he is the laziest clone design of the entire series. (Before you say I made this up, people actually researched this stuff and found this out.)
3. I don’t think Kid Icarus needed three characters. Before it was quite obvious Palutena was going to be in this game I was even thinking two was slightly pushing it. I’ve heard Uprising is a good game and all, but the only reason it got the representation it did in Smash 4 is because Sakurai directed both. The last Kid Icarus game before Uprising was nearly two decades ago, and that one isn’t even canon to the Japanese. So the last one was the first Kid Icarus to Japan which was released nearly three decades ago. Some people complained about Star Fox getting 3 in Brawl when that franchise kinda stops to a halt every few years or so (I didn’t though) but Kid Icarus gets three reps even though it’s relatively minor to Nintendo as a result of it’s very long breaks between sequels?
4. Even if Kid Icarus deserved a 3rd Character. There were better choices, my picks would personally either be Medusa (Main antagonist of the original game, and played a decent role in Uprising) or Hades (Main antagonist of Uprising, that is also become an instant hit with fans of Nintendo villains with his hilarious dialogue)
and 5. Dark Pit could of easily been fit as an Alt. I would of been perfectly fine if Dark Pit was just an Alt that is similar to how Olimar has Alph or Bowser Jr. have the Koopalings. It comes up as quite hypocritical when they do stuff like that but Dark Pit is a separate character on his own. Pit and Dark Pit even have the same voice actor. It wouldn’t take too much effort even compared to how the Wii Fit Trainer and Robin have their male and female alts.
I just want to put a disclaimer that I don’t hate Dark Pit as a character, just his inclusion in Smash 4. I watched a full let’s play of Uprising and found Dark Pit to be an ok character in terms of the story. It’s just he was far from deserving of his own slot in Smash 4. And I literally think the roster would be better if he was not there at all as opposed to having another character on the roster. The purpose of clones in Smash is to include semi-popular characters that are less effort to create that beef up the roster. It’s a failure of a clone though, if people would literally take nothing over that character being included in the first place. The only people who actually want to play Dark Pit are those who just really liked him as a character in Uprising and people who want to troll people by using Dark Pit because of how much they are aware that Dark Pit gets on people’s nerves (Sometimes it’s both at once even).
The other two major clones Dr. Mario and Lucina are better for different reasons. While I still don’t like Dr. Mario (As you see I used him as a Punching bag as well), he is different enough from Mario to even lead towards being a Semi-Clone plus Dr. Mario has more history then Dark Pit both in Video Game history in general (The first Dr. Mario game was made in 1990) and Dr. Mario being a veteran alone gives him more merit as much as I still don’t get why he can’t just be an alt of Mario. And Lucina is the new Roy, but even better then Roy because at least she has had some time in her own game to get used to her and she’s a relatively popular character in the Fire Emblem fandom to boot,
Sal Mod: Ok, apparently Mod can’t make up his mind about what to do for the followers, having passed 300 followers, so tell you guys what. Reblog this post with a ref of your OC, perhaps, say, 6 of you. Those 6 will be in the followers pic. If I get more than 6, I’ll use a randomizer thing to choose who gets drawn.
Come on guys, only got like 3 refs, keep them coming!
Wha? I would never disagree with people about something as silly as what they choose for Smash Bros. mains. o.O
Probably Training Mode with Sonic.
I’ve been hearing some pretty good things about Sonic in Smash 4. And I want to get used to the 3DS Controls for a bit first. (Though the Demo has helped with that a good amount) And see just how good Sonic is compared to him in Brawl for myself.
After that, I’ll probably head into Vs. Mode and do 120 matches to unlock all the characters. Just because that won’t take too long. Compared to how Melee made you do ONE THOUSAND matches to unlock all the characters via Vs. Match number. (Which is why the other method of unlocking the characters were far better, even if there were still a few annoying ways to unlock like Mewtwo’s. You could leave your Gamecube on the entire night, but it’s still a ridiculous unlock method :P). Also create a Mii FIghter of myself quickly.
Then I think I’ll start the process of going through Classic Mode with every character.
They’re different from eachother.
The Smash Bros. (And video game references in general) references I did in Genie Twilight are just for a little fun. Cause sometimes I just feel like doing something for Smash because I’m really excited it for that time. Considering I’ve done cameos of other cartoons as well with the Animaniacs (When I found out Animaniacs reruns were coming to the Hub) and Cosmo & Wanda from Fairly Oddparents (Done when an asker did a Fairly Oddparents reference in an ask). It’s all just fun with referring to other forms of media that I like. I do it only every now and then, I think for the most part the blog’s mostly still just Genie and/or Pony stuff. Nothing wrong with reaching outside the box every once in a while right?
The Game Genie joke from the last time I referenced Smash in a Genie Twilight update was just too priceless to do as well.
